AdaptivEars Ear Impression Guidelines
Our earplugs are custom-made to fit your ears. A 3D scan or physical ear impressions (molds) are required before we can begin production.
Getting Your Impressions
We offer complimentary 3D scanning with purchase in Colorado. Please contact our office at 303-945-3828 to schedule an appointment.
For customers outside the locations listed above, ear impression services are available through audiologists. Please contact us for a list of providers in your area and to inquire about cost and scheduling. The cost of a 3D scan or physical ear impressions varies by region and typically ranges from $100–$150.
Once you have your impressions, please send them to the address below along with your name and order number. Our current production turnaround time is approximately 3 business days from the time we receive your impressions at our lab until your order ships. Turnaround times are subject to change, particularly during the holiday season.
Keeping Your Impressions on File
We keep your impressions on file for 3 years, during which time you can reorder directly from our website. However, factors such as significant weight loss or weight gain, as well as aging, can change the shape and size of your ear canal. Because our ears continue to change throughout our lifetime, we require new impressions every 3 years to ensure the best possible fit.
Ear Impression Guidelines
Your audiologist will most likely be familiar with taking high-quality 3D scans or ear impressions suitable for custom hearing protection and in-ear monitors. To ensure the impressions meet our requirements, please share the following guidelines with your provider:
- Foam otoblocks are preferred; cotton otoblocks are also acceptable.
- Ear impressions must not be white, clear, or translucent in color.
- Impressions should extend to or beyond the second bend of the ear canal. The silicone material must reach the otoblock to capture the full ear-canal detail.
- Impressions must include complete ear-canal, concha, and helix information.
- Impressions with bumps, voids, or holes larger than 2 mm will not be accepted.
- 3D ear scans are accepted.
- We do not accept hand-molded ear impressions that have been trimmed or cut down.
